I teach a number of core introductory and upper-division international relations and comparative politics courses including:
Introduction to International Relations
Latin American Politics
International Environmental Politics
U.S. Foreign Policy
I have also taught a number of focused courses:
The Politics of Climate Change
The Geopolitics of Oil & Energy/Energy & International Security
Cuban Culture, Society & Politics through Film
Cuba: From Revolution to Globalization (study abroad course)
I believe in student-centered teaching pedagogies that engage students in their own learning, promote critical thinking, and help students gain a solid grasp of the complexity of actors, institutions and process that make up the world around them. It is my personal goal to accomplish all this while sharing my enthusiasm for the study of politics and international affairs and help students enjoy learning!
For example, in the final days of my Introduction to International Relations courses students prepare for and run a negotiation simulation where they work to address security, economic, human rights and powersharing issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
